Test before you print

A QR code that scans perfectly on the screen you designed it on can still fail in the world. Contrast that looks fine on a bright monitor can be too low on paper. A logo covering too much of the centre eats error-correction budget. Printers resample, inks bleed, laminate reflects, and older scanners are far less forgiving than a modern phone camera.

Scan every code with more than one device, at the size you will actually print it, before you commit to a print run. The studio shows a health check to help, and the health check is a guide, not a guarantee.

The health check is a guide

The studio estimates whether a design is likely to scan — contrast, quiet zone, logo coverage, module size against the error-correction level you chose. It is arithmetic on the design, not a test on a scanner.

It cannot know your printer, your substrate, your lighting, the distance people will stand at, or which scanner app they use. A green health check is not a promise that a code will scan.

Scan the code before you trust it

This applies to codes you encounter as well as codes you make. A QR code conceals its destination, which makes it a convenient way to send somebody to a page they would not have clicked. Check the URL your scanner previews before you open it, and be wary of a code stuck over another one.
